Eidos Montreal, a subsidiary of Embracer, recently announced the termination of 97 employees from its studio. The company shared the news on social media, specifying that the layoffs affected individuals across various departments, including development, administration, and support services.
The statement released by Eidos attributed the layoffs to the global economic context, industry challenges, and the comprehensive restructuring initiatives implemented by Embracer, which have ultimately impacted their studio.
Despite the difficult circumstances, Eidos emphasized their commitment to supporting all affected personnel during this transitional period. The company acknowledged the high level of talent and experience possessed by the impacted individuals and expressed the desire to assist them in finding their next career opportunities.
According to reports from Bloomberg, citing anonymous staff members, Embracer has also decided to halt the development of an undisclosed Deus Ex project at Eidos. Instead, the focus will shift towards the creation of an original intellectual property.
It’s worth noting that Embracer acquired Eidos in 2022, and during the course of 2023, the gaming firm underwent significant downsizing, resulting in the layoff of over 900 employees. In January, there were additional layoffs at Lost Boys Interactive, a developer owned by Gearbox, though the exact number of affected employees remains undisclosed.
