In a recent shake-up, WWE ring announcer Mike Rome has made his way back to NXT, putting to rest rumors of a demotion. Rome, who initially joined WWE in 2016 as an NXT ring announcer, was called up to RAW and SmackDown in 2018, working various roles. However, in a recent development, Alicia Taylor replaced him on SmackDown, and Rome returned to NXT this past Tuesday.
Contrary to speculation, reports from Fightful Select confirm that Rome’s return to NXT is not viewed as a demotion. In fact, WWE sources suggest that Rome was seen “re-familiarizing himself” with the role and was enthusiastic about the future. Although he may not be completely happy with the change, Rome has expressed his excitement about returning to NXT, sharing screenshots from his appearance on Tuesday’s show and captioning it with the brand’s signature catchphrase, “We Are NXT!”
Rome, whose real name is Austin Romero, has had a diverse career before joining WWE. He has worked as an emcee, singer, and cast member at Disney World and Universal Studios, and even toured the country with Nickelodeon. Now, in addition to his WWE commitments, Rome has partnered with co-hosts Danny Ly Ziser, Raheem Jarbo, and Laney Feni, along with producer Alexis Cardoza, to launch a new talk show called “In Case I Missed It.”
The weekly 30-minute show will go into TV, movies, streaming, pop culture, and geek culture, promising celebrity guests, entertaining segments, and insightful discussions. The first episode is set to premiere soon, and the crew is excited to bring their unique perspective to the world of pop culture.
As Rome settles back into his role on NXT, fans can look forward to his charismatic ring announcements and, soon, his take on the world of entertainment through “In Case I Missed It.” With his infectious enthusiasm and dedication to his craft, Mike Rome is sure to make a mark in both the WWE and the world of pop culture.
