Dannii Minogue has addressed reports about her sexuality following remarks made at the launch of her show I Kissed A Girl, reiterating her role as an ally to the LGBTQIA+ community.
The 52-year-old singer is gearing up for her return as Cupid on BBC Three’s dating series, where 10 women went on a journey to find love, beginning with a kiss.
Last Thursday, during the show’s launch, it was reported that Dannii expressed emotional sentiments, allegedly stating,
‘I identify as queer in a weird way.’
However, in an Instagram post, she clarified her statement, emphasizing her support for the LGBTQIA+ community and dispelling any misconceptions about her sexuality:
‘Had such a great night at the screening of I Kissed A Girl this week. What a wonderful Q&A with @CatherineBohart.’
‘The whole night was filled with fun and laughter celebrating the first cast of IKAG and talking about my role as host and eternal ally to the LGBTQIA+ community.’
‘I have been lucky enough to know and work with the queer community most of my life and I can’t wait for Sunday night. It’s all about girls who like girls, bring it on!’
Addressing the reports further, Dannii clarified:
‘To clarify, there was no breakdown and I was not making an announcement that I’m a lesbian or queer, I’m straight and in a long term hetero relationship.’
Dannii also expressed her admiration for the courage of the contestants on I Kissed A Girl, commending their representation within the reality dating genre.
Reflecting on her involvement in the show, she noted its potential to drive societal change:
‘This is going to change the daily life paths of many, many people. There’s so much to be learned from the show, for families, friends and allies.’
Dannii Minogue’s history of relationships and dating has been a subject of public interest.
From her marriage to Julian McMahon to her more recent long-term relationship with Adrian Newman, she has maintained a private personal life despite being in the public eye.
As anticipation builds for the premiere of I Kissed A Girl on May 5, fans are eager to witness this groundbreaking series that promises to challenge norms and promote LGBTQIA+ representation on television.
