It’s a special father-daughter day out. At the 150th Kentucky Derby, Larry Birkhead, accompanied by his late Anna Nicole Smith’s look-alike teen daughter, Dannielynn Birkhead, enjoyed a memorable outing together on Saturday.
Larry, the 51-year-old photographer, shared a series of snapshots of the 17-year-old on Instagram, capturing her in a stunning red ruffled floor-length dress and floral hat, commemorating their time at the races.
“On the way to @kentuckyderby with Dannielynn after a great night at the Barnstable-Brown Gala and quick morning haircut or two,” he captioned the post.
“Dannielynn’s dress was inspired by her favorite character Hino Eiji, Kamen Rider OOO TaJaDor combo -she made me write that -because that character had the same shoulders as the design of the dress she found !,” Larry added.
“Hey whatever works, just trying to spend a little quality time as this weekend of traditions come to a close.”
Larry himself looked sharp for the derby, donning a gray suit, white button-up shirt, and black dress shoes.
Attending the Kentucky Derby and the Barnstable-Brown Gala has become an annual tradition for Dannielynn and her father.
Last year, Larry reminisced during the gala about meeting Smith at the same event 20 years prior.
The pair welcomed Dannielynn in September 2006. (Initially, Smith claimed her attorney and romantic partner, Howard K. Stern, was Dannielynn’s father, but Larry contested that claim and demanded a DNA test.)
Tragically, the former Playboy model passed away from a drug overdose in February 2007 when her daughter was only 5 months old. Smith was 39.
Since then, Larry has been raising Dannielynn as a single father.
Last September, in celebration of his daughter’s 17th birthday, the real estate agent shared rare photos, expressing heartfelt wishes for her special day and noting how proud Smith would have been of Dannielynn.
