At the 12th Annual Blossom Ball in New York on Friday, Bindi Irwin shared an update on her ongoing battle with endometriosis as she was honored with a significant award.
Speaking to Access Hollywood, the 25-year-old expressed that she was currently faring well after enduring a challenging period with the disease.
“If you had asked me a couple of years ago if I would be standing here, I wouldn’t have believed you in a million years. Endometriosis was taking over my life and every day felt like just getting one foot in front of the other,” she recounted.
“Now to be on the other side of surgery, the gratitude that I feel in my heart is overwhelming.”
Bindi also emphasized the importance of raising awareness and providing support for girls and women worldwide who are in urgent need of treatment and care for endometriosis.
“To be here tonight at the Blossom Ball celebrating [not just] the wins for endometriosis but also to bring awareness for girls and women around the world who are in desperate, desperate need of treatment and care and validation, that’s why we’re all here,” she added.
Joined by her family, including her brother Robert Irwin and her mother Terri Irwin, Bindi received the 2024 Endometriosis Foundation of America’s Blossom Award for her advocacy work surrounding endometriosis.
This recognition comes after Bindi publicly addressed her decade-long battle with the disease last year.
In October, Bindi disclosed the challenges she faced during her pregnancy journey with daughter Grace Warrior, revealing moments of excruciating pain that led her to fear she was experiencing a pregnancy loss.
“Along my pregnancy journey, I would often have times where I thought I was miscarrying because I would have severe unexplained pain,” she shared with Good Morning America.
In March, Bindi opened up further about her struggles with endometriosis in a lengthy Instagram post.
She detailed her decision to undergo surgery after years of enduring debilitating pain, expressing gratitude for finally receiving validation from medical professionals and support from loved ones.
Bindi’s candidness about her health journey aims to shed light on the often-overlooked condition of endometriosis and offer hope to other women facing similar struggles.
