WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has spoken out about the company’s misstep in not pushing Adam ‘Edge’ Copeland to superstardom sooner. The veteran announcer believes that Edge, an 11-time world champion, was overlooked for far too long and should have been given the spotlight earlier in his career.
Edge, known as the Rated R Superstar, joined WWE in the mid-90s and initially made a name for himself in the tag team division alongside Christian Cage.
While their partnership produced some unforgettable moments, including their iconic TLC matches, Ross thinks that WWE should have taken Edge out of the tag team scene and pushed him as a singles competitor much earlier.
Speaking on the Grilling JR podcast, Ross expressed his opinion that Edge was “well deserving and overdue” for top billing. He acknowledged that Edge and Christian’s tag team success was impressive, but ultimately limited in its scope. “They could not live on the laurels of the TLC matches forever,” Ross stated.
Despite WWE’s oversight, Edge went on to have a highly successful career, winning multiple championships and becoming one of the most decorated stars in the business.
However, Ross’s comments serve as a reminder that even the most talented performers need opportunities to shine. Had WWE given Edge the push he deserved earlier on, it’s possible that his career trajectory would have looked even more impressive.
Meanwhile, Edge continues to thrive in All Elite Wrestling (AEW), where he currently holds the TNT Championship. This week, he will put his title on the line against a member of the House of Black stable on Dynamite.
The challenger will be revealed mere seconds before the match begins, adding an element of surprise to what promises to be an exciting contest.
As Edge prepares to face off against his latest opponent, fans can’t help but wonder what might have been if WWE had given him the recognition he deserved earlier in his career.
One thing is certain, however: Edge remains one of the most talented and resilient performers in professional wrestling, and his legacy continues to inspire new generations of fans and wrestlers alike.
