During her appearance on “Busted Open Radio,” Thunder Rosa reflected on Swerve Strickland’s historic AEW Championship victory at Dynasty.
Rosa expressed her admiration for the build-up to Strickland’s title win, highlighting the significance of representation in wrestling, which made the moment particularly meaningful to her.
“For many of my African American friends, Swerve being the first African American champion in AEW carries immense significance… Representation is crucial to me as a Mexican American wrestler.
Swerve’s portrayal, including his homage to ‘Black Panther’ with the Wakanda gear, resonates deeply. He embodies the essence of representation with his style, flair, and determination,” Rosa emphasized.
Rosa also disclosed that Jericho, a fellow AEW star, offered significant praise for Strickland during a post-Dynasty dinner following his victory over Samoa Joe for the title. She emphasized Strickland’s relentless dedication both in and out of the ring.
“Jericho truly celebrated Swerve’s achievement at the dinner. Swerve has tirelessly worked to reach this point, not just in wrestling but also in other endeavors.
I remember when he started his music career, and he’d share his tracks on Spotify… He’s been hustling in multiple areas, and now everything is coming together for him. I’m genuinely thrilled for his success,” Rosa shared.
The challenger for Strickland’s first pay-per-view title defense will be revealed on “AEW Dynamite” this Wednesday, with the championship bout scheduled for May 26 at Double or Nothing.
