Gunther’s arrival on WWE’s main roster has breathed new life into the Intercontinental Championship’s prestige, which had waned in recent times. However, the focus has now shifted towards upcoming events, specifically the annual WWE Draft, where new superstars and fresh opportunities are on the horizon following WrestleMania.
Ahead of this pivotal event, former NXT and NXT UK Champion Ilja Dragunov received glowing praise from his former rival, The Ring General (Gunther), during an interview on Gorilla Position. Gunther highlighted Dragunov’s recent performances and expressed confidence in his potential to shine on the main roster.
Gunther Praises Ilja Dragunov
“I think somebody that will do great going forward is Ilja [Dragunov]. I think that’s somebody waiting to explode right now. He just wrestled on RAW. The Draft is coming up. So, let’s see (…) I think he would be the guy that I would single out right now that performs at this stage that he is, almost too advanced for,” Gunther remarked.
In other developments, Imperium has faced challenges as a stable due to certain members not meeting expectations. The group initially comprised four members before Alexander Wolfe’s departure.
Subsequently, Giovanni Vinci remained in the developmental brand while Gunther and Ludwig Kaiser transitioned to the main roster under the previous regime. However, Triple H reunited the trio at WWE Clash at The Castle 2022.
Unfortunately, Vinci’s series of losses did not sit well with The Ring General, especially following his notable reign as the Intercontinental Champion, which concluded at WrestleMania XL.
Gunther recently returned to Monday Night RAW, where after a tag team match against The New Day, he directed Kaiser to remove Vinci from the faction, effectively kicking him out. It remains to be seen if a replacement will be sought for Vinci within Imperium.
