Since joining AEW full-time earlier this year, Will Ospreay has been making significant strides, culminating in a dream match against Bryan Danielson at AEW Dynasty later this month.
However, his journey to this point has been far from easy. The “Aerial Assassin” navigated through the challenging UK independent circuit and NJPW before venturing Stateside.
Ospreay has been candid about his struggles with neuro-divergency, revealing that he has autism, ADHD, and dyslexia, each presenting unique obstacles to overcome.
He also shed light on how these conditions impacted his education before receiving a diagnosis during an interview on “Hey! (EW).”
“In the school system, I didn’t discover much about myself until after I left”
He shared.
“So I didn’t receive any additional assistance. There were numerous aspects of my education where I truly needed support, but unfortunately, I didn’t receive it.”
Ospreay emphasized that he is just one of many individuals with neurodivergence, estimated to be one in seven people.
He expressed his desire to be transparent about his struggles to offer encouragement to others facing similar challenges. However, he also admitted feeling embarrassed when he signed with AEW.
“Discovering all this about myself, I want to demonstrate to people that, yes, I have autism, ADHD, and I’m highly dyslexic; reading is a significant challenge for me.
I even had someone read my contract aloud for me, which was incredibly embarrassing. Nevertheless, I believe I’ve reached this point because of the qualities that define me, and I aspire to inspire others.
Many individuals in my area are reluctant to take chances on individuals with autism, and I hope that my accomplishments can serve as inspiration to them.”
