Although Deonna Purrazzo is currently focused on her pursuit of the AEW Women’s Championship, she hasn’t overlooked the championship rematch owed to her in AEW’s sister company, Ring of Honor (ROH).
In a recent interview with PWMania, Purrazzo shared her thoughts on the potential challenge of facing the current ROH Women’s World Champion, Athena, in the future. She highlighted her previous history with the title during the discussion.
“I think [facing Athena] would be interesting. I mean, I lost my Ring of Honor Women’s World Championship in the main event of [AEW] Dynamite against Mercedes Martinez. I never got a rematch, so I feel like if I wanted, I have a stake at that championship as well,”
Purrazzo remarked.
As Purrazzo referenced, her initial reign as ROH Women’s Champion faced a formidable challenge on the May 4, 2022, episode of “AEW Dynamite,” where she and the interim champion, Mercedes Martinez, battled to determine the undisputed ROH Women’s Champion.
Unfortunately, Purrazzo’s debut appearance on “Dynamite” ended in defeat when Martinez forced her to tap out with a surfboard dragon sleeper.
Should Purrazzo vie for the ROH title against Athena, it would mark their first-ever singles match.
However, for the time being, Purrazzo’s attention is focused on her upcoming match for the AEW Women’s Championship against Toni Storm, as well as her bout against Mariah May scheduled for the next episode of “Dynamite.”
Meanwhile, Athena recently defended her ROH Women’s Championship against Red Velvet in the main event of “Battle of the Belts,” bringing her closer to an impressive 500 days as champion.
