As WWE WrestleMania XL Night Two loomed closer, Triple H delved into the intricacies of CM Punk’s remarkable return to the company, shedding light on the behind-the-scenes machinations leading up to the event.
After an absence spanning nearly a decade, The Second City Saint made a triumphant return to World Wrestling Entertainment at the 2023 Survivor Series.
Despite his comeback, Punk’s aspirations to compete at this year’s WrestleMania were dashed when he sustained a tricep injury during the 2024 Men’s Royal Rumble Match.
In a candid discussion during the WrestleMania XL Night Two Kick-off pre-show, Triple H divulged the clandestine nature of Punk’s return, revealing that only a select few were privy to the unfolding events.
Recounting the frenetic sequence of events, Triple H disclosed that negotiations to finalize Punk’s return took place on the day of the Survivor Series: WarGames Premium Live Event, coinciding with the live broadcast.
“On the day of the event, while Survivor Series was underway, I received word that we needed to expedite the paperwork. This all happened while we were live on air. Perhaps only five people were aware at that point. Just before his arrival at the venue, I received confirmation that everything was in order, and we swiftly ushered him into the building. I took a brief hiatus from the production area to greet him, and then, during a break before the match, I briefed the other talent,”
Triple H recounted.
With anticipation mounting among fans for Punk’s recovery and potential rivalry with Drew McIntyre, the Stamford-based promotion faces intriguing prospects in shaping the trajectory of their feud moving forward.
As speculation swirls, the WWE universe eagerly awaits the unfolding chapters of this exciting saga.
