Tim Tszyu is gearing up for his showdown against Sebastian Fundora on March 30, marking his second defense of the WBO junior middleweight title.
This upcoming bout adds another chapter to the growing legacy of elite combat athletes emerging from Australasia, including names like Alexander Volkanovski, Israel Adesanya, George Kambosas Jr., and Robert Whittaker, all boasting world titles.
In a recent appearance on Morning Kombat, Tszyu shed light on the wealth of talent originating from Down Under.
He reflected on his training sessions with Robert Whittaker, highlighting the former UFC champion’s remarkable progress with each encounter.
Tszyu reminisced,
“I’ve sparred plenty of rounds with Rob Whittaker, actually… In all honesty, when I first sparred him – because it was boxing, I’m not doing MMA – I got him really good. But the next spar, he just sort of adapted. He was a true professional, he knows how to win rounds and how to get things done. I was really impressed with that.”
Tszyu’s initial opponent, Keith Thurman, had to withdraw from their scheduled bout due to a bicep injury. Now facing Fundora, Tszyu expressed surprise at his opponent’s dietary choices just days before the fight.
Fundora was spotted indulging in a burger and pizza, a display of what Tszyu perceived as a lack of discipline in his preparation.
In a candid interview with FightHype.com, Tszyu shared his thoughts on Fundora’s approach, stating,
“My body has matured and it’s in a different state of mind. See, he’s eating pizza and burgers, man. I would never, I would never do that. I wouldn’t even do that in a training camp.”
Tszyu’s journey to victory encompasses rigorous training, respect for opponents, and disciplined lifestyle choices.
As he steps into the ring to defend his title, his dedication and focus serve as a testament to his determination to succeed at the highest level of the sport.
