In a recent interview on Under the Ring: Pro Wrestling Conversations, Slaughter shed light on the origins of this epic match.
“Pat and I were engaged in a series of matches, but with no decisive outcomes. Mr. McMahon Sr. grew frustrated and declared, ‘You two are heading into a special match.’ I inquired about the nature of this match, and he responded, ‘It’s called the alley fight.’ Curious, I asked, ‘What’s an Alley Fight?’ His reply was, ‘I don’t know, but you two are having one.'”
Slaughter went on to assert that their clash at Madison Square Garden stands as the greatest match in the arena’s history.
“We indeed had the greatest match of all time at Madison Square Garden. It was a truly epic battle with no referee—a rarity then and now. We fought relentlessly, creating an unforgettable spectacle.”
In a separate development, Lacey Evans took a jab at Sgt. Slaughter following her departure from WWE. During her tenure, Evans portrayed a character reminiscent of the WWE legend, drawing his ire on social media.
In an interview with Road Trip AFTER HOURS after her release from the company, Evans didn’t hold back in her criticism of Sgt. Slaughter and his daughter.
“I was bothered by how seriously they took it on social media… Even old man Slaughter, I hope his hips still work and his daughter is still around. Where I come from, and the woman I am, you better stand by your words. Same goes backstage at WWE; I stand firm in who I am and my beliefs.”
The potential for a feud between Evans and Slaughter on television before her departure adds an intriguing layer to their dynamic.
