The annual anticipation of John Cena’s WrestleMania appearance has become a tradition for the WWE Universe.
Recently, Cena unveiled the original plan for his headline match at WrestleMania 36, shedding light on the unexpected twist that transformed it into a Firefly Fun House bout.
WrestleMania 36, held in 2020, witnessed the innovation of two cinematic masterpieces – John Cena facing Bray Wyatt in the Firefly Fun House match and AJ Styles taking on The Undertaker in the Boneyard match.
In an interview on INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet, Cena delved into the details of his WrestleMania 36 encounter with Bray Wyatt.
Contrary to the initial plan for a standard one-on-one match, the management made a last-minute decision to turn it into a Firefly Fun House bout, catching Cena by surprise:
“Yeah, and then things happened. And I remember three days before we filmed the Firefly Funhouse match. It was the last TV taping where they came in, and they’re like, you’re gonna have a Firefly Funhouse match. And I remember there were three people in one of the conference rooms in NXT with me. I said, ‘What’s a Firefly Funhouse match?’ They said, ‘I don’t know.’ I said, ‘Great! What can we do? And that was like, oh, man, again, control the controllable. I wish we had an audience.” [H/T – INSIGHT]
Cena expressed admiration for Bray Wyatt and acknowledged the excellence of the Boneyard match featuring The Undertaker and AJ Styles.
Amidst discussions about his past, reports suggest that WWE has plans for John Cena at WrestleMania XL.
