Former WWE star Chris Masters recently took to social media to share a candid revelation about his battle with pill addiction, shedding light on a harrowing chapter of his life.
Currently competing under the name Chris Adonis in the NWA, Masters rose to prominence during his tenure in WWE, particularly during the Ruthless Aggression Era.
On Instagram, Masters shared a throwback video commemorating his return after a three-month hiatus, alongside a heartfelt confession regarding his struggle with pill addiction:
“Wayback Wednesday. After nearly three months off to kick a bad prescription pill addiction that almost killed me, I returned. I felt pretty good about myself, but all anyone else could focus on was that I was about 15lbs lighter. The fact is I would’ve kept most of that weight on if I hadn’t decided to go out on a jog every morning on an empty stomach.”
Reflecting on his journey to recovery, Masters highlighted how his morning runs became a source of solace, providing a semblance of normalcy amidst the turmoil:
“When you’ve had an addiction, it can be hard to get pleasure like you once did out of anything. Takes Time!! All I knew was the closest I felt to being normal was after that morning run. My weight and the size of arms just weren’t a priority, preventing myself from being yet another wrestler to die young was,” he wrote.
Masters’ openness about his struggles resonated deeply with his followers, sparking conversations about the challenges of addiction and the path to recovery.
In a previous interview, Chris Masters expressed his desire to return to WWE, hinting at a potential comeback. His last appearance for the company dates back to 2011.
During WrestleMania 38, Seth Rollins faced off against the returning Cody Rhodes, with WWE teasing a mystery opponent for Rollins. Reacting to the storyline, Masters expressed his interest in facing Rollins, signaling his readiness for a potential WWE comeback.
“Better yet, if Seth needs an opponent, please let Vince [McMahon] know I’m available and still in better shape than just about the whole roster #WrestleMania,” tweeted The Masterpiece.
With Masters remaining active in the wrestling scene and displaying a willingness to return to WWE, fans are left to speculate about the possibility of his resurgence in the promotion in the years to come. Only time will reveal what the future holds for the wrestling veteran.
