The WWE universe was abuzz with excitement as the King/Queen of the Ring tournament kicked off on Monday Night RAW, featuring some of the biggest names in the industry. However, the tournament did not go entirely as planned, with four WWE Superstars left in limbo due to time constraints. According to reports, Rey Mysterio, Kofi Kingston, Shayna Baszler, and Zelina Vega did not get a chance to participate in the first-round matches as scheduled.
The King/Queen of the Ring tournament has been highly anticipated, with top superstars like Gunther, Sheamus, Jey Uso, Finn Balor, IYO SKY, Natalya, Ricochet, Ilja Dragunov, and many more vying for the coveted title. The tournament is set to culminate at the premium live event in Saudi Arabia on May 25, 2024.
Despite the initial hiccup, the tournament saw some thrilling matches, with Jey Uso taking Drew McIntyre’s place and Dakota Kai replacing an injured Asuka. Main Event Jey Uso managed to advance to the second round by defeating Finn Balor, while Dakota Kai lost to Lyra Valkyria. Other superstars who made it to the second round include IYO SKY, Ilja Dragunov, Zoey Stark, and Gunther.
Fightful Select reported that the reason for not featuring the four matches on the televised show was due to the lack of time between now and the PLE on May 25 to fit them into future episodes of RAW. The report further claimed that at least one of the affected superstars was informed of the change “the day of!”
To make up for the missed matches, WWE has announced that the four affected superstars will compete at WWE Live Events this weekend. The winner of Rey Mysterio vs. Kofi Kingston will face Gunther in the second round, while the winner of the Shayna Baszler vs. Zelina Vega match will take on IYO SKY.
The King/Queen of the Ring tournament has already generated significant buzz, and fans are eagerly waiting to see who will be crowned the ultimate winner. Despite the initial setback, WWE has managed to salvage the situation, and the tournament is back on track. With some of the biggest names in the industry vying for the title, this tournament is shaping up to be one of the most epic battles in WWE history.
