WWE Hall of Famer Booker T recently shared his thoughts on Tony Khan’s decision to fire CM Punk following the 2023 All In incident.
After watching the Wembley footage released by AEW on Dynamite last week, the five-time WCW World Champion expressed his disagreement with the move.
In the footage, viewers witnessed CM Punk engaged in a physical altercation with Jack Perry, also known as Jungle Boy, and appearing to confront Tony Khan off-camera.
This incident led to Punk’s departure from AEW and his subsequent signing with WWE.
During the Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T remarked that, in his opinion, the altercation did not warrant termination.
Drawing from his own experience of backstage conflicts in the wrestling industry, he emphasized that such disputes are not uncommon and are usually resolved internally.
“Me personally, I don’t think that was a fireable offense. I don’t know what has been going on behind the scenes with CM Punk and Tony Khan or anything like that for Tony Khan to make a decision like that off of what we saw because that did not seem like it was anything other than the boys getting into it. I’ve gotten into it with guys on the roster before many many times. And normally after it happens they will bring us in and say guys, either we gonna get along or somebody’s going to have to get along, one of the two. And we shake hands and get back to work,”
said Booker.
In addition to Booker T’s perspective, wrestling veteran Vince Russo criticized Tony Khan’s decision to air the All In footage on Dynamite.
Russo argued that the footage supported Punk’s version of events in his interview with Ariel Helwani, indicating that Punk was truthful throughout.
Despite the controversy, Tony Khan incorporated the All In incident into a storyline between FTR and The Young Bucks, culminating in a match at the upcoming AEW Dynasty pay-per-view on April 21.
