In a recent development, WWE has called out SmackDown standout Grayson Waller for allegedly fabricating a story during the latest episode of Monday Night Raw. The Australian competitor faced defeat against Cody Rhodes in the headline match of the red brand’s show.
During Elimination Chamber 2024, Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins appeared as guests on The Grayson Waller Effect for a special segment.
Within the segment, dubbed by some as “The Grayson Waller Effect,” the American Nightmare boldly issued a challenge to none other than The Rock for a singles showdown.
As the segment unfolded, Waller bore witness as Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes proceeded to unleash a beatdown on Austin Theory, effectively bringing the segment to a dramatic close.
WWE didn’t waste time in spotlighting Waller’s remarks, sharing a clip on their official Instagram account where Waller purportedly claimed to have done everything in his power to shield the former United States Champion from Rhodes and Rollins.
However, the promotion’s post subtly hinted that Waller’s narrative might not align with the truth.
Reacting swiftly, Waller took to Instagram to dismiss WWE’s post as “AI nonsense” and demanded its deletion.
Meanwhile, veteran wrestling figure Vince Russo hasn’t been shy about his lack of enthusiasm for Grayson Waller’s prospects. Speaking on an episode of The Wrestling Outlaws last year, Russo expressed doubts about Waller’s ability to resonate with WWE fans.
He confidently stated that the 33-year-old wouldn’t draw viewership for SmackDown and asserted that he saw no need to apologize for his stance.
“This guy is never getting over. I’m in the wrestling business. I don’t watch SmackDown, and nobody’s telling me to watch SmackDown because of Grayson Waller. The guy ain’t ever getting over. I don’t even need to say ‘I’m sorry,'” Russo remarked emphatically.
On the other hand, former WWE manager Dutch Mantell holds a more optimistic view, believing that Waller possesses the elusive “it factor” and could potentially shine on the main roster. As the road to WrestleMania 40 unfolds, it remains to be seen what WWE has in store for Waller.
