Whoopi Goldberg firmly believes in keeping wealth within the family circle. The esteemed host of The View, reputedly holding a $60 million fortune, disclosed her intention to leave “everything” to her daughter Alexandrea Martin, 50, whom she shares with her first husband, Alvin Martin.
On the May 2 episode, the 68-year-old articulated,
“One of the great answers is children learn by what they see. My mother worked her behind off and so that’s why I feel the way I feel and I’m leaving my kid everything that I have.”
While the notion of passing down wealth to offspring may seem conventional, several Hollywood figures have recently voiced their intention not to bestow significant fortunes upon their children.
Renowned chef Guy Fieri, for instance, revealed that his sons, Hunter, 27, and Ryder, 18, won’t inherit his culinary empire unless they demonstrate their worthiness.
“I’ve told them the same thing my dad told me,”
He shared with Fox News in December.
“My dad says, ‘When I die, you can expect that I’m going to die broke, and you’re going to be paying for the funeral.’ And I told my boys, ‘None of this that I’ve been building are you going to get unless you come and take it from me.'”
Similarly, actor Jeff Goldblum, who shares children Charlie, 8, and River, 6, with his wife Emilie Livingston, advocates for a similar approach, emphasizing the importance of instilling a strong work ethic in his children.
“It’s an important thing to teach kids. I’m not going to do it for you. And you’re not going to want me to do it for you,”
He expressed this on iHeart’s Table for Two with Bruce Bozzi podcast.
“You’ve got to figure out how to find out what’s wanted and needed and where that intersects with your love and passion and what you can do. And even if it doesn’t, you might have to do that anyway.”
