WWE’s Chief Content Officer, Triple H, recently shared insights into a private discussion he had with Nick Khan regarding the sensational return of CM Punk to the wrestling scene.
Following his departure from WWE in 2014, Punk ventured into the realm of mixed martial arts before making a high-profile comeback with AEW in 2021.
However, his tenure with AEW was short-lived, culminating in his release in September of the following year amidst controversy surrounding an alleged altercation with Jack Perry.
Nonetheless, Punk’s unexpected return to WWE at the 2023 Survivor Series: WarGames Premium Live Event sent shockwaves through the wrestling world.
During a segment on the Countdown to Night Two of WrestleMania 40, Triple H disclosed details of his conversation with Nick Khan regarding Punk’s return.
Triple H revealed that Khan initiated several discussions with Punk, prompting Khan to seek Triple H’s approval before engaging with The Straight Edge Superstar.
Reflecting on the situation, Triple H expressed initial reservations about the potential fit of Punk within WWE’s framework.
“Funny. If you would have asked me a few weeks prior to that, you know because there was rumors and all that stuff. And we’d had zero communication at that point. As we got closer to the event there was a couple of conversations that happened between Punk and Nick Khan. Nick had said to me, ‘Hey would you be opposed to me having a conversation and just seeing where it goes’ and I was like, ‘Look I have no issues there, just, you know, my concern would just be what’s the fit,'”
he recounted.
Currently sidelined due to a triceps injury, CM Punk is slated to join the announcer’s table during Seth Rollins’ World Heavyweight Championship match against Drew McIntyre.
As anticipation mounts for this showdown, fans are eager to witness the outcome of this highly anticipated clash.
