Recent reports suggest that AEW CEO Tony Khan’s tweet regarding Rossy Ogawa’s contract termination from STARDOM has caused discontent among STARDOM wrestlers. Ogawa, the founder of the Japanese wrestling promotion, has seen many talents pass through, including Kairi Sane and Chelsea Green.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, STARDOM wrestlers and media personalities were reportedly upset with Tony Khan’s comments on Rossy’s departure. The tweet in question seemingly mocked Ogawa’s situation, leading to dissatisfaction within the STARDOM community.
In another development related to AEW, wrestling veteran Dutch Mantell shared his perspective on the AEW rankings system. Mantell claimed that former AEW star CM Punk influenced Tony Khan to abandon the ranking system entirely. According to Mantell, Punk’s influence on Khan was a favor, as he believes the ranking system is irrelevant.
Somebody close to the situation in STARDOM said, “You have no idea how upset wrestlers and media are about Tony’s sticking it to Rossy.”

During the Story Time with Dutch Mantell podcast, Mantell expressed his disinterest in the concept, stating that ranking a wrestler does not necessarily correlate with their drawing power. Using the example of Dante Martin, he argued that being ranked number two doesn’t guarantee the ability to draw money.
While Dutch Mantell may not find the ranking system interesting, it’s worth noting that opinions on its relevance vary.
Some fans have expressed a desire to see the concept return in AEW, highlighting the diverse perspectives within the wrestling community regarding the importance and effectiveness of ranking systems in professional wrestling promotions. It remains to be seen if AEW will revisit or revise its approach to the rankings system in the future.
