Crystal Dynamics and Aspyr are set to release the highly anticipated Tomb Raider 1 – 3 Remastered tomorrow, February 14, 2024. However, prior to the launch, Crystal Dynamics issued a content warning, alerting players to the presence of racial and ethnic stereotypes within the game.
In a statement provided to IGN, Crystal Dynamics explained its decision to retain these stereotypes in the remastered version, expressing a desire to confront and learn from the harmful impact they may have. The statement reads:
“The games featured in this collection include offensive depictions of people and cultures that are steeped in racial and ethnic prejudices. These stereotypes are deeply harmful and indefensible and are not in line with the values upheld by Crystal Dynamics.
“Instead of removing this content, we have made the deliberate choice to present it in its original, unaltered form, with the hope that we can acknowledge its damaging effects and glean valuable insights from it.”
Tomb Raider 1 – 3 Remastered will be available on multiple platforms, including PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. For further updates and gaming news, readers can explore our coverage of the cast of Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth.
