Speedrunners typically bypass anything in games that can save valuable seconds off their runs – from cutscenes to entire levels. However, one record chaser made a unique decision to sacrifice precious time to perform the now-iconic musical number from Alan Wake 2.
For anyone acquainted with Alan Wake 2, there’s a standout moment where the game momentarily breaks its somber tone for a lively song and dance sequence. This scene has etched itself into gaming memory, so much so that the game’s creative director took to the stage at the Game Awards to perform it, and even Final Fantasy 14’s esteemed composer praised it recently.
During her speedrun of the metafictional horror game, streamer Tainted Tali made a conscious choice to let this section play out instead of skipping it for a quicker time.
I'm so proud to have showcased #AlanWake2 at a major speedrun event, and of course we had to really make something special for this moment 🎉@SamLakeRMD @TimePirateNinja @RiotRMD #ESAWinter24 pic.twitter.com/N6XP4P2kc6

But in a truly memorable twist, she not only allowed it to play but also stood up on stream to perform the entire number accompanied by a crew of backup dancers. “Yes, this absolutely cost us time, but it was worth it to showcase the game,” the streamer remarked on Twitter. See it below.
“I’m so proud to have showcased #AlanWake2 at a major speedrun event, and of course, we had to really make something special for this moment,” she shared on February 22, 2024.
“It’s definitely on the longer side, and there’s a lot of waiting,” she responded to a viewer on social media. “But I love the game so much it doesn’t really bother me.” Tainted Tali’s sentiment resonates with others, as evidenced by our five-star review of Alan Wake 2 and our article praising it as a prime example of effective dual protagonists.
The peculiar sequel still holds more surprises, with two expansions on the horizon that will tease future games within the Remedy Connected Universe. Speaking of which, Alan Wake 2 recently clinched the title of the studio’s fastest-selling game, aiding in the acceleration of development for Control 2 and the Max Payne remakes.
