Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley, an enchanting musical adventure inspired by Tove Jansson’s timeless series of children’s tales, has finally received a release date. Set to debut on Tuesday, March 7th, the game will be available on Switch and PC via Steam.
In Melody of Moominvalley, players embody the free-spirited wanderer Snufkin, donning his iconic oversized green hat. Armed with the power of music, particularly his trusty harmonica, Snufkin endeavors to restore nature’s balance. This quest arises when the Park Keeper and his minions begin constructing unsightly parks across Moominvalley.
“As Snufkin, you’ll engage in various activities such as distracting police officers, removing signs, and toppling misplaced statues,” explains Norwegian developer Hyper Games. “Your ultimate goal is to rejuvenate nature and reclaim the inhabitants’ homes while thwarting the industrious plans of the Park Keeper.”
This heartwarming adventure unfolds in a beautifully illustrated open-world environment. Players immerse themselves in Melody of Moominvalley’s charming locales, interacting with its delightful array of characters. Each character boasts their own unique stories and quests to undertake. Throughout the journey, players will encounter musical and environmental puzzles, often employing stealth tactics to progress.
Eurogamer’s Robert Purchese expressed admiration for the game after experiencing a preview last year. “We observe Snufkin lounging by a tent in the snow and fishing in a frozen lake as if nothing else in the world matters,” he wrote.
“Then, we witness his leisurely stroll back in the spring to reunite with his Moomin friend… All accompanied by the gentle strumming of the band Sigur Rós and soft panoramas of idyllic countryside scenery. It’s reminiscent of Snufkin’s mission—the antithesis of the cluttered, polluted, and burdensome existence many of us endure. It’s light, airy, and uncomplicated. A pleasant refuge.”
For those enticed by this description, Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley will be available for approximately £18, with a 10 percent discount offered until release day on March 7th for both Steam and Switch platforms.
