Grimorio of Games, the development team behind Sword of the Necromancer, has unveiled their latest project: Sword of the Necromancer: Resurrection. This remake, slated for release on PC, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S, is turning heads not just for its announcement but for the timing of it. After all, the original Sword of the Necromancer debuted a mere three years ago in January 2021.
Sword of the Necromancer: Resurrection isn’t simply a graphical update; it’s a full-fledged 3D remake powered by the engine utilized for the forthcoming action RPG, Sword of the Necromancer: Revenant.
Anticipated to hit the shelves sometime in 2024, Resurrection will precede Revenant’s release. Players who conquer Resurrection will gain access to exclusive perks in Revenant, including the ability to summon bosses from Resurrection to assist them on their journey.
While the core roguelike and dungeon-crawling elements of the original game remain intact, Resurrection introduces several enhancements, such as revamped combo mechanics and an AI companion system.
To compensate for the single-dungeon setting of the original and its alignment with Revenant’s mechanics, Resurrection boasts a significantly larger dungeon divided into multiple zones, each culminating in a formidable boss encounter reminiscent of the original game’s “floors.”
In addition to these updates, Resurrection offers local co-op multiplayer functionality and incorporates new narrative segments, complete with both English and Japanese voiceover options.
The narrative of Sword of the Necromancer revolves around Tama, a former rogue entrusted with escorting the priestess Koko on a pilgrimage across the continent.
However, tragedy strikes when Koko perishes, prompting Tama to embark on a perilous journey into the depths of the Necromancer’s crypt. His goal: to harness the power rumored to lie within and resurrect Koko from the clutches of death.
