Tony Khan, president of AEW, has reportedly given Queen Aminata a unique storyline, despite her recent losing streak spanning over two months. The streak commenced on December 20 of the previous year during an AEW Rampage match against Skye Blue.
Since then, Queen Aminata has faced defeat in seven consecutive matches, with her most recent loss occurring on the February 10, 2024, episode of Collision against AEW Women’s World Champion, “Timeless” Toni Storm.
According to Dave Meltzer’s insights on the Wrestling Observer Radio podcast, AEW’s creative team strategically orchestrated Queen Aminata’s series of losses to enhance her character development.
Meltzer elaborated that the purpose behind this storyline is to build anticipation for a significant moment when Queen Aminata secures a pivotal victory. He highlighted that she consistently demonstrates strong performances, even in defeat, which serves to elevate her profile within the promotion.
“The whole thing with Queen Aminata is that they’re building up towards where she’s gonna get a big one. The whole story is that she comes close to beating the top people all the time, it’s like they’re building her. So the story is, she has to look good in all these matches,” explained Meltzer.
As for Mercedes Mone, formerly known as Sasha Banks in WWE, speculation regarding her debut in AEW has been rampant.
Rumors suggest that she will make her highly anticipated debut at Dynamite: Big Business on March 13, 2024, at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts.
However, wrestling veteran Konnan has expressed apprehension regarding Mone’s future in AEW. He voiced concerns that despite a grand debut and initial fanfare, AEW’s utilization of her talent might not meet expectations over time, potentially diminishing her impact in the promotion.
Mone’s absence from the wrestling scene has been notable, with her last match at NJPW Resurgence resulting in an injury that sidelined her for approximately nine months. Despite this setback, anticipation for her return remains high, with fans eager to witness her next chapter in AEW.
