Director Dan Trachtenberg, known for his work on “Prey,” is set to helm another installment in the Predator franchise.
Titled “Badlands,” the film will see Trachtenberg collaborating once again with screenwriter Patrick Aison, who will craft the script. While specific plot details remain under wraps, The Hollywood Reporter notes that, like its predecessor, the movie will feature a female lead.
Trachtenberg’s “Prey” stands as the fifth entry in the Predator series, serving as a prequel to the original four films by delving into the origins of the iconic extraterrestrial hunters.
Departing from the male-centric focus of earlier installments, “Prey” stars Amber Midthunder as an indigenous female protagonist who confronts the alien predators. The film garnered positive reviews and made a significant impact on Hulu, setting a record as the platform’s most-viewed debut.
The franchise debuted in 1987 with the first “Predator” film, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jesse Ventura, and Carl Weathers as elite soldiers battling the titular creature in the jungle. Subsequent entries include “Predator 2” in 1990, “Predators” in 2010, and “The Predator” in 2018.
Trachtenberg had hinted at a follow-up to “Prey,” expressing his appreciation for standalone narratives while also enjoying the opportunity to incorporate additional storytelling elements beyond the main feature.
“Badlands” has yet to receive a confirmed release date but is slated to commence filming this year. Meanwhile, “Prey” remains available for streaming on Hulu. For further updates, viewers can explore our list of the most anticipated films scheduled for release in 2024 and beyond.
