This week’s WWE RAW episode sparked a nostalgic moment when a popular Twitter throwback account shared a promo segment from WCW in 1989, featuring Paul Heyman and Jim Ross. The clip showcased Heyman humorously mimicking Ross’ distinctive speaking style, prompting the post to playfully brand Heyman as “mischievous.”
In response to the playful accusation, the former ECW figure questioned the choice of labeling him as mischievous instead of pegging Jim Ross as a provocateur. On Twitter, Heyman expressed his amusement, saying,
“Why oh why oh why oh why am I being labeled mischievous instead of being labeled a provocateur? @WWE #WCW #ThePhone #PaulEDangerously #BestMulletEver.”
While Heyman currently plays a crucial role as the Wiseman to Roman Reigns in WWE’s day-to-day programming, Jim Ross finds himself in the AEW as its lead commentator. Eric Bischoff, former WWE General Manager, recently praised Ross and shared his insights on utilizing him in the current era.

Speaking on his 83 Weeks podcast, Bischoff advocated positioning Ross as the “Hulk Hogan of announcers” in the current landscape. He emphasized the importance of treating Ross’s talent as a special attraction, drawing parallels to the strategic use of The Undertaker towards the end of his career.
“I would make Jim Ross the Hulk Hogan of announcers for my company. Make him an attraction. Keep him special. Build up his legacy. Showcase him. Make him the John Madden, if you will, of professional wrestling, because that’s who he is,”
Bischoff remarked, highlighting the value of promoting and strategically using Ross.
Currently, the legendary commentator is in the process of recovering from cancer surgery on his right hip, underscoring his resilience and commitment to the wrestling industry.
