Pocketpair, the developer behind Palworld, remains unfazed by the decline in the game’s player count despite its once soaring popularity taking a dip.
From its peak of 2.1 million simultaneous players during its launch weekend to around 535,000 players in the 24-hour concurrent Steam count currently, the drop has caught attention. However, community manager “Bucky” took to Twitter to address concerns, dismissing the notion that the decrease in player count is a cause for alarm.
In a statement, Bucky labeled the discourse surrounding Palworld’s diminishing player base as “lazy” and emphasized the importance of understanding that it’s normal for players to take breaks and explore other gaming options while waiting for new content updates.
With Palworld quickly approaching the 1-month mark, it's interesting to look back at my own thoughts for launch.
In May of 2023, I was convinced that Palworld could break the 50,000 player mark. Anything above that seemed unobtainable though, and I certainly never expected it to… pic.twitter.com/1rZaV30QON

“This emerging ‘Palworld has lost X per cent of its player base’ discourse is lazy, but it’s probably also a good time to step in and reassure those of you capable of reading past a headline that it is fine to take breaks from games,” said Bucky. “You don’t need to feel bad about that.
Palworld, like many games before it, isn’t in a position to pump out massive amounts of new content on a weekly basis. New content will come, and it’s going to be awesome, but these things take a little bit of time.”
Approaching its one-month mark, Palworld prompts reflection on the expectations set at launch. Bucky shared personal insights, revealing initial estimations and the surprising trajectory of the game’s reception.
“If you are still playing Palworld, we love you. If you’re no longer playing Palworld, we still love you, and we hope you’ll come back for round two when you’re ready,” Bucky expressed, emphasizing the inclusive nature of their community.
Acknowledging the challenges faced, Pocketpair admitted to being “overwhelmingly short” on developers to sustain the game’s momentum. Additionally, they addressed concerns over cheating and fraudulent activities impacting the gameplay experience for legitimate players. Pocketpair announced measures to combat cheating, including the implementation of an “external anti-cheat solution.”
