Paddy Pimblett, the rising UFC lightweight sensation, recently revealed that his upcoming opponent, Bobby Green, wasn’t initially his preferred choice for his next fight. Set to face Green at UFC 304 in July, Pimblett had his sights set on a bout with the No.10 ranked Renato Moicano instead.
Rumors had been circulating about a potential matchup between Pimblett and Moicano, especially after the Brazilian fighter had repeatedly called out the 29-year-old, most notably during the post-fight press conference after his victory at the UFC Fight Pass Invitational 7. Pimblett confirmed these rumors during a recent interview with The Mac Life, expressing his desire for a bout against Moicano, anticipating an engaging buildup to the fight.
However, the matchup with Green was eventually announced, much to Pimblett’s chagrin. In his candid style, Pimblett didn’t hold back his feelings about Green, labeling him as a “b*llend” and “a proper tool.” Despite his initial disappointment, Pimblett acknowledged that facing Green presents an opportunity to enter the lightweight rankings, as Green currently holds the No.15 spot in the division.
Discussing his upcoming fight with Green, Pimblett didn’t shy away from expressing his opinion on his opponent’s recent performance. He pointed out that Green’s chin may have been compromised following a knockout loss to Jalin Turner last December. Pimblett believes that this vulnerability could make Green an easier opponent, citing instances where even less powerful strikers like Jim Miller were able to wobble him in subsequent fights.
With his eyes set on extending his undefeated streak in the UFC to five wins, Pimblett is preparing for what he sees as a favorable matchup against Green. Despite his initial disappointment about not facing Moicano, Pimblett remains focused on making a statement in the lightweight division, one fight at a time.
