Nikoderiko: The Magical World, a nostalgic platformer, recently revealed a new trailer during the Future Games Show at Gamescom, presented by Sid Meier’s Civilization® VII. The game centers on Niko and Luna, who discover an ancient relic on a mystical island.
However, their find is quickly stolen, endangering the island and its inhabitants. To recover the relic, the duo must navigate through seven distinct worlds and confront the nefarious villain Grimbald.
As players guide Niko and Luna through each level, they will encounter numerous boxes to smash and hidden collectibles to find. The game features a variety of traversal mechanics, including ground-pounds, climbable spider-webs, and a parachute for gliding, offering a rich array of gameplay options and strategies to master Nikoderiko.
The game’s design pays tribute to classic platformers, drawing clear inspiration from beloved titles such as Spyro the Dragon, Crash Bandicoot, and Disney’s classic games like Tarzan and Aladdin. The characters, including Nico, Luna, and their numerous allies and adversaries, are crafted with distinct personalities.
Accompanying the gameplay is a soundtrack by renowned composer David Wise, known for his work on Donkey Kong Country and Banjo-Kazooie.
Nikoderiko: The Magical World is crafted to be enjoyable for players of all ages, featuring a family-friendly design and couch co-op play. Scheduled for release this October on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam, it promises to be a charming addition to the platforming genre.
