The animated Marvel Studios series, X-Men ’97, continues to delight fans with its nods to the wider Marvel universe, and a recent revelation from former showrunner Beau DeMayo adds another layer of excitement.
Responding to a question from a fan on X (formerly Twitter), DeMayo confirmed that a scene featuring Storm’s first flight in Episode 6 was indeed inspired by a moment from Henry Cavill’s Superman in Man of Steel.
In the scene, Storm regains her powers after being neutralized earlier in the series, soaring through the air at incredible speeds and donning a new black costume. This visual parallel to Cavill’s Superman flying for the first time after donning his iconic red-and-blue suit is hard to miss.
This isn’t the first time Marvel Studios has referenced the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), with 2021’s Eternals notably featuring nods to both Batman and Superman, officially integrating them into the Marvel Universe.
As for Storm’s storyline in X-Men ’97, her return to action after being sidelined power-wise is met with anticipation from fans. The recent tease of emotionally charged moments following her discovery of the brutal attack on Genosha, possibly involving major mutant figures like Magneto and Gambit, sets the stage for an intense finale.
With Professor Xavier’s shocking return and ominous visions hinting at impending danger for the X-Men, the stage is set for a historic three-part finale in X-Men ’97. Fans eagerly await the resolution of these storylines in the final two episodes.
For those eager to catch up, the first eight episodes of X-Men ’97 are now available to stream on Disney+.
