Recent rumblings hint at the possibility of Dwayne Johnson, aka The Rock, stepping back into the WWE ring later this year.
At WrestleMania 40, The Rock and Roman Reigns secured a significant victory on Night 1 against Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins. However, Night 2 saw The American Nightmare getting his revenge by dethroning Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Championship.
On the post-‘Mania RAW, The Rock made it clear that his next target upon return would be Cody Rhodes. Responding to this, the WWE Champion expressed readiness for The Rock’s comeback. Since then, fans have eagerly anticipated a potential singles match between the two icons.
According to the latest insights from Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dwayne Johnson is likely to square off against The American Nightmare at WrestleMania 41.
While there’s a chance of The Rock participating in a match later this year, the encounter with Cody Rhodes is tentatively slated for WrestleMania, regardless of Rhodes holding the WWE Championship or not.
Triple H Hints at Plans for The Rock’s WWE Comeback
WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H dropped hints about The Rock’s potential return to the ring during his recent appearance at the Sports Business Journal’s World Congress in Los Angeles.
Praising Dwayne Johnson’s impact at this year’s WrestleMania alongside Reigns, Rhodes, and Rollins, Triple H expressed eagerness for The Rock’s WWE comeback:
“So his coming in, just across the board, if you would’ve told me in the beginning of the conversation that we we’re going to get The Final Boss heel version of The Rock, I would have said, ‘You’re crazy,’ but that’s his level of commitment. He goes off, makes a few movies now but as he said a week ago, he’ll be back and it’ll be a hell of a ride when he comes back,” Triple H said.
As fans await The Rock’s return later this year, speculation mounts over who will step up as his next challenger, with his anticipated clash against Cody Rhodes reportedly reserved for WrestleMania 41.
