In a recent Xbox podcast presentation, Microsoft addressed the swirling rumors and reports regarding a potential shift in its first-party strategy, confirming a noteworthy development: four titles are set to be released on non-Xbox consoles.
Head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, took to the platform to clarify that Starfield and Indiana Jones, previously speculated as potential multiplatform releases, are not part of this quartet. Spencer reassured players that this move does not signify a departure from their core exclusive strategy.
Spencer outlined that individual game teams would be responsible for making announcements about their availability on other platforms. He noted that two of these titles are community-driven projects, while the remaining two are smaller-scale games originally not intended as platform exclusives. Nonetheless, Spencer emphasized that these games had reached their full potential on Xbox and PC.
The decision, as Spencer highlighted, is aimed at bolstering the Xbox ecosystem while leveraging opportunities presented by other platforms. He stressed the importance of expanding the Xbox business and brand for sustained growth, stating, “We don’t damage Xbox, and we can grow our business using what other platforms have to help us with that.”
Looking ahead, Spencer sees an opportunity to introduce Xbox franchises to players on other platforms, thereby enhancing the appeal of the Xbox brand. He underscored the potential brand value this strategy holds for Xbox.
Joining the discussion on the podcast, Xbox president Sarah Bond made a significant announcement regarding Game Pass offerings. She revealed that Activision Blizzard games would be integrated into Game Pass, with Diablo 4 slated to join the catalog on March 28, marking the beginning of this collaboration.
Bond also assured listeners that Microsoft remains committed to hardware innovation for the future. She emphasized the focus on delivering an unprecedented technical leap in the next generation of hardware, signaling Microsoft’s dedication to advancing gaming technology.
