During last Wednesday’s episode of Dynamite, the arena plunged into darkness while Mercedes Moné was in the midst of an interview. When the lights returned, Moné was found incapacitated.
On the latest episode, Moné vowed to seek retribution for the assault and publicly speculated on the prime suspects, including the two wrestlers she is set to face in her debut match at Double or Nothing next month: current TBS champion Julia Hart and her challenger at the upcoming Dynasty PPV, Willow Nightingale.
During tonight’s episode, Mercedes Moné addressed the assailant who blindsided her in the previous week.
Those two competitors were slated to compete in a mixed tag match on the April 17 Dynamite. However, as it was Nightingale’s turn to enter as Adam Copeland’s partner, it was revealed that she had been attacked backstage.
This left Copeland to face Brody King solo, a situation that unfolded predictably. Nightingale intervened when Copeland was in dire straits, but a well-placed punch from Hart incapacitated her. Referee Aubrey Edwards had no option but to end the match when Hart applied Hartless.
Hart maintained her hold until Moné stormed the ring brandishing a steel chair, causing Hart to retreat. Tensions simmered between Mercedes and Willow, although a confrontation was averted for the time being.
The question lingers: Is Hart the assailant, or is Nightingale attempting to implicate her? While Nightingale was present after Willow’s attack, the whereabouts of Kris Statlander earlier remain unclear.
