Since Triple H took the reins of creative control at WWE, there’s been a noticeable shift in direction, and Matt Riddle, who worked under The Game’s guidance during his tenure, recently commended the new trajectory the Stamford-based promotion has taken.
Released from WWE in September 2023, Riddle has firsthand experience with both Triple H and Vince McMahon at the helm.
Speaking with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, the former US Champion expressed his appreciation for the more organized approach behind the scenes under Triple H’s leadership, contrasting it with the past era of last-minute script changes.
According to Riddle, Triple H’s regime emphasizes careful planning and minimal alterations to the scheduled shows, providing a stark contrast to the chaotic atmosphere prevalent during McMahon’s tenure:
“With Triple H in control, there is a lot more control in the sense that things are organized. At least when I was there, before I left, things were, they were scheduled for this unless something catastrophic happened or someone got injured or something’s not going to work out, that’s what’s happening next day. They write it, and it actually happens.”
Reflecting on his time under Vince McMahon’s creative leadership during his five-year stint with WWE, Riddle recalled the uncertainty and frequent last-minute changes that characterized the backstage environment.
Entire shows would undergo rewrites, leading to chaotic situations behind the scenes. While unsure if similar practices persist under Triple H’s reign, Riddle noted that such occurrences were a regular feature under McMahon’s management:
“With Vince, I don’t know; I feel like he did it on purpose; I don’t know the method. There would be a show, and you’d get a script on Sunday, but by Monday, nobody knew what they were doing. The show was being completely rewritten and stuff like that. I haven’t been there in a while; maybe that’s happening again sometimes; these things do happen. With Vince around, it was like that probably every week; it was just a little chaotic.”
Since Endeavor Group Holdings assumed control and Vince McMahon parted ways with the organization following a lawsuit, WWE has undergone significant changes.
Nonetheless, the focus remains steadfast on WrestleMania XL, with Triple H and the decision-making group gearing up for the grand event just a month away.
