Brock Lesnar has entered a phase in his WWE career where he is actively putting over emerging talents. Despite expressing his desire to contribute positively to the business, this phase was cut short due to the Vince McMahon scandal that unfolded.
In a recent interview on Sunday Night’s Main Event, former WWE Superstar Matt Riddle shed light on the situation. Regarding the lawsuit and the mention of a “UFC Heavyweight Champion,” Riddle clarified that it was Brock Lesnar, not him, as many had speculated.
“I wasn’t the dude (alleged in the lawsuit). Brock was the dude he (Vince McMahon) was talking to. It wasn’t me. I really have no comment, other than that,”
Riddle stated, setting the record straight. Lesnar’s last notable storyline in WWE was against Cody Rhodes, during which he willingly put over The American Nightmare in two premium live events, concluding at SummerSlam.
When it comes to Vince McMahon’s portrayal on television, Riddle emphasized that the characters depicted by WWE Superstars are often exaggerated versions of themselves. In McMahon’s case, the eccentric and sometimes erratic behavior seen on screen aligned with the billionaire’s true persona.
“People say that (they were surprised), and granted I had no idea of anything going on. I don’t even politic my own matches. I show up and do my job. Honestly, if you watch any of his work from in-ring performances, the things he said and did, logic would tell you alone. Especially, me, personally, all the good wrestlers that play good characters, that’s them. It might be turned up by ten or 100, but that’s them,” Riddle commented.
He continued, expressing that McMahon’s billionaire status and ownership of WWE have likely shaped his personality and actions. Riddle concluded by stating, “The guy was a maniac,” highlighting that he wasn’t surprised by McMahon’s actions given his history in the industry.
McMahon’s last on-screen appearance was on a June 27, 2022, episode of Monday Night RAW, where he introduced John Cena during the latter’s 20th-anniversary celebration in the wrestling giant.
