Marvel has added a new line of Infinity Comics to its Marvel Unlimited subscription service, announced at the 2023 New York Comic Con. This new imprint, Astonishing Infinity Comics, kicked off with a brand-new Spider-Man series, and the first two issues are now available for free.
The Infinity Comics line is designed specifically for digital consumption, offering a convenient reading experience for mobile devices. Published in a vertical format, these weekly webcomics are accessible on phones and tablets, enhancing Marvel’s growing digital presence.
“Astonishing Spider-Man” is written by Scott Aukerman, known for his work on Comedy Bang Bang, and features art by Salva Espin, who recently worked on X-Men ’97. Aukerman explained that the series fits within Spider-Man’s main continuity, offering stories that take place between Peter Parker’s ongoing adventures in the Amazing Spider-Man series.
The series promises a unique blend of humor, emotional storytelling, and action, showcasing Spider-Man in ways that set him apart from other heroes. The promotional art, created by Espin, teases an engaging and vibrant interpretation of the iconic character.
In addition to Spider-Man, the Astonishing Infinity Comics line will expand to include X-Men and Avengers stories starting in January 2025. The X-Men comic will be written by Steve Orlando with art by Francesco Archidiacono, while the Avengers series will be crafted by writers Alex Paknadel & Tim Seeley, and artist Phillip Sevy.
This expansion highlights Marvel’s commitment to offering fresh content across its most beloved superhero teams, all within the digital-first format of Infinity Comics.
Infinity Comics is a part of Marvel’s ongoing effort to embrace digital storytelling, making many titles available through the Marvel Unlimited service. These comics are designed to be read easily on mobile devices, allowing readers to experience new stories on the go.
Earlier this year, Marvel introduced its Start Scrolling initiative, which provides fans with free access to selected stories without requiring a subscription or login, further expanding its reach to casual readers.
Fans can currently read the first two issues of “Astonishing Spider-Man” for free on Marvel’s website. These issues offer a new look at Peter Parker’s adventures, blending humor, heartfelt moments, and street-level action. As Marvel prepares to roll out more Infinity Comics featuring characters like the X-Men and Avengers, readers can expect even more engaging stories in this mobile-friendly format.
