Marvel Comics will commemorate the one-year anniversary of their reimagined Ultimate Universe this December with a special one-shot titled Ultimate Universe: One Year In #1. This universe revamps beloved characters like Spider-Man, Iron Man, Black Panther, the Avengers, and the X-Men.
The announcement came during the publisher’s Next Big Thing panel at Comic-Con International: San Diego, setting the stage for a celebration of the innovative new takes on these heroes.
Written by Deniz Camp, known for his work on Ultimates, Ultimate Universe: One Year In will provide an expansive look at the new Ultimate Universe. The story will explore the growth of superheroes in this alternate reality, Earth-6160, a year after the downfall of the villainous Maker. The Maker, a key figure in shaping this universe’s history and political landscape, remains a looming threat despite his absence.
Marvel’s official description reveals that the Ultimate Universe has been under the control of the Maker’s Council since his capture. In the past year, new heroes have emerged, striving to repair the fractured world.
However, with the Maker’s return on the horizon, his council initiates a daring strategy to eliminate these rising heroes. This oversized one-shot aims to set the narrative for the upcoming year, introducing Ultimate versions of two significant Marvel characters.
The reimagined Ultimate Universe features several key titles, including the flagship Ultimate Spider-Man, as well as Ultimate Black Panther, Ultimate X-Men, and The Ultimates, the latter being this universe’s iteration of the Avengers. This team is notably led by Tony Stark/Iron Lad and Reed Richards/Doom, showcasing the unique twists on familiar characters within this universe.
Ultimate Universe: One Year In #1 is scheduled for release in December, promising to delve deeper into this new era of Marvel storytelling. The issue will not only reflect on the past year’s developments but also pave the way for future storylines, offering fans fresh perspectives on iconic heroes and the conflicts that shape their world.
