Nearly two years since tensions escalated between CM Punk and AEW, recent comments from Punk reignited discussions about his departure from the company.
Speaking out on several events surrounding his exit, Punk’s revelations prompted a response from Jim Cornette on “Jim Cornette’s Drive Thru,” where he shared his perspective.
Cornette reflected on the role of Colt Cabana in the issues with Punk, suggesting that problems had surfaced from the outset.
“Now that you’ve got this Golden Goose — from the start there were already the rumblings.”
Expanding on this, Cornette proposed that AEW should have accommodated Punk’s wishes without question.
“I don’t care if CM Punk walked in the first day after signing his contract and said ‘I would like to see Colt Cabana disemboweled in the middle of the f***ing ring tonight at 5 o’clock.’ They should’ve done it! ‘Cause who the f**k is Colt Cabana? Good God!”
The exchange between “Hangman” Adam Page and Punk preceding their title match is viewed as a tipping point for further discord between Punk and the AEW locker room.
Cornette also criticized Page’s role in the confrontation and questioned his ability to effectively convey his message on television.
“You don’t understand what he’s f**king talking about, and the guy was not talented enough verbally to make any of it make sense in any context!
