Jade Cargill made headlines in the wrestling community with her departure from AEW to sign with WWE.
On September 26th, 2023, World Wrestling Entertainment announced that Cargill had inked a multi-year contract with the organization.
Merely days before this announcement, Cargill had been prominently featured in Tony Khan’s promotion, contending for the TBS Championship on AEW programming.
Commencing her wrestling journey in 2020, Cargill swiftly ascended to the upper echelons of All Elite Wrestling, establishing herself as one of the company’s premier talents.
She burst onto the scene alongside NBA icon Shaquille O’Neal for a marquee match against Cody Rhodes and Red Velvet.
Her trajectory continued as she emerged as a dominant force in the women’s division. A notable milestone came in 2022 when she captured the inaugural AEW TBS Championship.
Her reign was historic, spanning an impressive 508 days – the longest tenure for any championship in the promotion’s history. Notably, her reign included a remarkable 60-match undefeated streak.
Reports surfaced post her departure from AEW indicating that Khan had extended two substantial offers to her, both of which were declined.
WWE heavily touted Cargill, facilitating several appearances prior to her unexpected in-ring debut at the Royal Rumble. Then, on March 29th, she was formally introduced as a SmackDown Superstar.
In a recent interview on Busted Open Radio, the former TBS Champion detailed her rationale behind transitioning to WWE from AEW.
“There are a couple of things that made me go to WWE other than the fact that the machine is ridiculous over here, the connections, the history, the legacy, it’s one of one, you know?
AEW was a new company, they’re still figuring things out, obviously. That happens with every company, right? You have to figure out what’s good and what’s bad.”
“I’m 31. I don’t have time to grow with the company at my age. I have to be in an established company, and I have to go over there and let it be known, because I can’t do this forever.”
Cargill is set to make her WrestleMania debut on April 6th, teaming up with Bianca Belair and Naomi to face off against the trio of Dakota Kai, Kairi Sane, and Asuka, collectively known as Damage CTRL.
