Arrowhead, the developer behind Helldivers 2, has announced that it has placed a “cap” on concurrent players at around 450,000 to enhance server stability.
In a communication shared with the game’s Discord community, the team acknowledged the ongoing challenges and assured players that they are tirelessly working to address them. Despite efforts to alleviate some of the issues, the team admitted to struggling with the necessary scaling demands.
“Earlier tonight we had server-related issues with a concurrent player spike,” the team disclosed. “This led to some mission payouts failing, some players being kicked to their ships, or being logged out.
“Our team is working around the clock to solve these issues. While we’ve been able to mitigate some of the causes, we are still struggling to keep up with the scaling that is needed to accommodate all our Helldivers.
“Therefore, we’ve had to cap our concurrent players to around 450,000 to further improve server stability,” the team added. “We will continue to work with our partners to get the ceiling raised.
“If you have progression-related issues, please restart the game in order for things to sync back up. Thank you for your continued patience.”
This announcement comes on the heels of Arrowhead’s apology for ongoing server “capacity issues” issued just the day before.
In an effort to compensate for the inconvenience caused by incorrect rewards at the end of missions, the developers promised all players a 50% XP and requisition bonus. However, the concurrent Steam count for Helldivers 2 continued to climb, exacerbating server stability concerns.
Helldivers 2 has achieved the title of Playstation’s biggest Steam launch, amassing over almost 300,000 concurrent users on the PC platform over the weekend. Prior to this, the record was held by Sony Santa Monica’s God of War reboot, which had 73,529 simultaneous users.
