This week, Helldivers 2 is facing significant issues with cheaters and rogue players, disturbing the flow of the game’s Major Orders. Recently, a group of players managed to sabotage one of the game’s toughest community missions, completing it in a fraction of the expected time.
According to an in-game dispatch, these cheaters submitted fake mission samples, leading to the mission’s quick resolution. While the game still awarded medals to the legitimate players, those who cheated faced an unusual punishment – the execution of their in-game pet fish.
In response, developer Arrowhead Game Studios is attempting to engage the community with a new Major Order focused on the Automatons, but this may be risky due to prior player resistance. Some players, calling themselves “Chaosdivers,” ignored a previous Automaton mission, allowing the faction to get dangerously close to Super Earth.
These players speculated that the developers may not actually have a Super Earth biome prepared, potentially forcing Arrowhead to scramble for a way to address this plot point in the game’s story.
An urgent in-game message revealed that the Automatons are advancing toward Super Earth, pleading with Helldivers to launch a counterattack. The current Major Order requires the community to defend against three bot attacks, starting with the liberation of Curia. With the mission reportedly 70% complete, it appears that the player mutiny may be subsiding, at least temporarily, as players focus on this new task.
In addition to the new mission, all players have been granted access to the “Orbital Gas Strike” Stratagem for a limited time, which ties into the punishment for the cheaters who manipulated the last Major Order. In the game’s lore, these cheaters have been sent to “Chemical Weapon facilities,” though there has been no concrete information on any actual in-game repercussions they might face for their actions.
Helldivers 2 is facing a turbulent time, with developers having to contend with not just cheaters but also players who are challenging the game’s progression in unexpected ways. Arrowhead is attempting to maintain control by keeping the community engaged with new missions, but the unpredictable behavior of players continues to pose challenges to the game’s narrative and structure.
