Decades after their memorable performances in “Reversal of Fortune,” Jeremy Irons and Glenn Close are preparing for a new collaboration.
The acclaimed duo, who portrayed Claus and Sunny von Bülow in the 1990 Oscar-winning thriller, are set to reunite in an upcoming comedy helmed by British director Simon Curtis (“My Week With Marilyn,” “Downton Abbey: A New Era”).
Close and Irons, who also shared the stage in Mike Nichols’ Tony-winning play “The Real Thing,” last appeared together on screen in 1993’s “The House of Spirits.” In their new project titled “Encore,” they will portray former Broadway stars Marie and Nigel, residents of a retirement home.
There, they discover a community of overlooked talents, inspiring Marie to organize a performance to reignite Nigel’s passion for theater and embrace their new life chapter.
Henry Winkler (“Barry,” “Arrested Development”) and Don Johnson (“Knives Out”) are set to join the cast.
Under the direction of Curtis and a script by Oscar-nominated writer Robert Nelson Jacobs (“Chocolat”), the film will be produced by Temple Hill Entertainment, known for franchises like “Twilight” and “Maze Runner.”
“Encore” is currently in preproduction and will be presented to international buyers at the Cannes film market, with Protagonist Pictures handling international sales and UTA Independent Film Group and CAA Media Finance managing domestic distribution.
Curtis’ previous works include “My Week With Marilyn” and the successful “Downton Abbey” sequel, while Close, a multi-Oscar nominee, has recently appeared in streaming hits like “Hillbilly Elegy” and “Swan Song.”
Irons, known for his Emmy-nominated role in HBO’s “Watchmen” and his portrayal of Alfred Pennyworth in DC films, continues to deliver entertaining performances.
Winkler, famous for “Happy Days,” has gained new acclaim with comedic roles in “Arrested Development” and “Barry,” while Johnson, recognized for TV shows like “Miami Vice” and “Nash Bridges,” has enjoyed a resurgence with roles in notable films like “Django Unchained” and “Knives Out.”
Close, Irons, Winkler, and Johnson are all represented by CAA, with additional representation for Close by MGMT Entertainment and Loeb & Loeb, Winkler by Management 360, and Johnson by Edelstein, Laird & Sobel.
