Bret Hart, a renowned figure in wrestling, has often been hailed for his technical prowess and safety in the ring. However, former WWE wrestler Tom Stone has come forward with claims suggesting otherwise.
During his tenure in WWE from 1987 to 1995, Stone had over a hundred matches, crossing paths with Hart as the latter transitioned into a prominent singles competitor from the tag team scene.
In a recent interview on the Cheap Heat Productions Podcast, Stone didn’t mince words as he accused Hart of causing him injury during a match:
“Bret was an a** in my opinion. Bret talks about not hurting people. Bullsh*t. He piledrove me and almost broke my neck. He portrays himself like this guy who was real careful. I don’t think he was.”
The incident in question unfolded during a match between Hart and Stone on the October 14, 1989, episode of WWE Superstars. Hart secured victory with a piledriver, leaving Stone with a near-neck-breaking experience.
Contrasting his experiences with Bret and Owen Hart, Stone revealed a stark contrast:
“I didn’t have a problem with too many guys. Vader, I didn’t like working with him, but Bret, I don’t like Bret at all. I never wrestled Owen. I knew him. I thought he was a decent guy.”
Stone further shared a poignant moment, mentioning a lunch he had with Owen shortly before the latter’s tragic demise. Owen Hart tragically passed away on May 23, 1999, at the age of 34, due to a mishap during a WWE event.
The allegations put forth by Stone against Bret Hart shed light on the complexities of the wrestling industry, showcasing that behind the glitz and glamour, there can be instances of discord and perceived unsafe practices, even among the most celebrated talents.
