In the unpredictable world of professional wrestling, release is an unfortunate but inevitable part of the business. While some careers may stall, many pro wrestlers have found significant success outside of the sports entertainment powerhouse, WWE. Recent rumors indicate that one veteran multi-champion, Jinder Mahal, is expected to make a significant impact in the next stage of his career.
Mahal was one of the surprising cuts from WWE’s roster, along with several other talented superstars, including Cameron Grimes, Xia Li, and Drew Gulak, among others. The 37-year-old grappler, also known as the Modern Day Maharaja, will be free to sign with any wrestling promotion after July 18, when his non-compete clause expires. According to sources, Mahal is expected to book a heavy schedule on the indie wrestling scene, with several top indie companies already expressing interest in working with him.
Game Changer Wrestling (GCW), AIW, and Black Label Pro have reportedly shown interest in booking Mahal, and sources claim that numerous top indie companies plan on reaching out to him after his non-compete clause expires. Moreover, promotions overseas and in Canada are also said to have shown interest in booking the 20-year veteran.
Rumors are also circulating about potential reunions on the indie scene. The Indus Sher trio, which was released at the same time as Mahal, may reunite to continue their dominance outside of WWE. Additionally, there’s a possibility of Mahal reuniting with The Bollywood Boyz, formerly known as The Singh Brothers, on the indie circuit. This reunion is made more plausible by the fact that his former managers are featured prominently on the indies, which could help facilitate the reunion.
GCW is reportedly “foaming at the mouth” to bring Mahal on board, and with the Bollywood Boyz already affiliated with the promotion, the stars seem to be aligning for a monumental reunion. After being released from WWE due to budget cuts, Mahal is poised to make a significant impact on the indie wrestling scene.
During his time in WWE, Mahal had two stints, first from 2011 to 2014 and then again from 2017 to 2024. He made a surprising return to WWE in January this year, but ultimately lost to Seth Rollins on WWE’s flagship TV show. After a few more matches, Mahal’s last appearance in WWE was at the 2024 Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, where he was eliminated by Luke Gallows.
As Mahal embarks on the next chapter of his career, fans and promoters alike are eagerly anticipating what he will bring to the indie wrestling scene. With his experience, skill, and charismatic presence, it’s likely that Mahal will make a lasting impact on the indie circuit.
