In a surprise turn of events, former WWE champion Shayna Baszler has finally broken her 792-day losing streak at the company’s recent house show in Macon on Sunday, May 12. The Queen of Spades faced off against Maxxine Dupri in the first round of the Queen of the Ring tournament, emerging victorious and securing her first singles win at a house show in over two years.
The match was supposed to be between Baszler and Zelina Vega, but Vega suffered an injury, paving the way for Dupri to take her place. Despite the last-minute change, Baszler proved to be the dominant force, defeating Dupri with ease to progress to the next round of the tournament.
This win marks a significant milestone for Baszler, who last won a one-on-one match cleanly back on March 12, 2022, when she defeated now-released star Aliyah. While she did defeat Ronda Rousey on the road to their match at SummerSlam, those victories came via disqualification, making this win all the more sweet.
Baszler’s next challenge will come in the form of old rival IYO SKY, whom she will face in the next round of the Queen of the Ring tournament. IYO SKY advanced to the second round by defeating Natalya on RAW this past Monday. The two women have a long history, having faced each other multiple times before, even before joining WWE.
IYO SKY has been booked as a top star in recent months, despite recently losing the WWE Women’s Championship to Bayley. In contrast, Baszler’s last prominent win came at SummerSlam 2023, where she defeated Ronda Rousey. With this win, Baszler will be looking to regain her momentum and make a deep run in the Queen of the Ring tournament. Will she be able to overcome IYO SKY and continue her winning streak, or will her old rival prove to be too much to handle? Only time will tell.
