Fntastic has issued a response to address accusations of misinformation surrounding The Day Before’s development and financial performance. According to a report by PCGamesN, the studio released a statement through a now-deleted social media post to clarify the situation surrounding the game.
In response to claims that Fntastic misled players, the statement emphasized that the studio did not receive funds from users, abstained from crowdfunding, and did not offer pre-orders.
It further highlighted the commitment to transparency by mentioning that even after the game was discontinued, both Fntastic and the publisher collaborated to refund all players, with some refunds being issued proactively to those who did not make specific refund requests.
The memo also addressed allegations from anonymous former staff members who shared conflicting stories about the game’s development.
Despite being a small independent company with budget constraints, Fntastic asserted that it supported employees by assisting with relocation, providing healthcare benefits, and offering help with personal matters such as purchasing equipment and managing mortgages.
The controversy surrounding The Day Before began before its launch on Early Access on Steam, leading to the studio’s closure a week later.
In June 2022, it was revealed that unpaid staffers were involved in the game’s development. Subsequently, in January 2023, the MMO title faced a delay due to a trademark claim, resulting in its removal from the Steam platform.
