In 2024, the 25th anniversary of the debut of Star Wars: Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace is marked with a special event. Marvel Comics is set to release the Star Wars: Phantom Menace 25th Anniversary Special, a one-shot comic book.
Crafted by Greg Pak, renowned for his work on Darth Vader comics and featuring artwork by Will Sliney, this special edition delves into previously unrevealed facets of Anakin Skywalker’s journey. The narrative ventures into Anakin’s perspective, threading through the events depicted in the film.
Marvel’s official description of the one-shot reads, “Celebrating the 25th anniversary of The Phantom Menace with an all-new story! Explore the earliest days and secret inner life of Anakin Skywalker with never-before-seen, revelatory stories set before, after, and between the scenes of the classic movie! Featuring the dream of a JEDI, the gift of a Tusken Raider, the heart of a Gungan, the ache of a mother, and the horror of a hero!”
Given Pak’s ongoing tenure as the writer of Darth Vader comics, notably with Darth Vader #46 recently solicited for May, his familiarity with Anakin Skywalker’s character is extensive. This background uniquely qualifies him to seamlessly integrate a new narrative that intersects with The Phantom Menace storyline.
Pak enthusiastically shared the news on his website, declaring, “Big news! I’m writing a huge anniversary special for The Phantom Menace, drawn by Will Sliney, which will be in stores this May! If you’ve been enjoying my Darth Vader series, you absolutely don’t want to miss this deep dive into the heart and soul of young Anakin. Ask your local comic shop to pre-order a copy for you today!”
Scheduled for release on May 1, just before Star Wars Day on May 4, Star Wars: The Phantom Menace 25th Anniversary Special #1 will feature a main cover illustrated by Phil Noto.
