Former WWE head writer Vince Russo has offered his insights on Paul Heyman’s recent appearance on RAW this week.
The segment saw Paul Heyman interrupting Cody Rhodes’ promo, ostensibly to extend an apology to The American Nightmare.
He went on to strike a deal with Cody, requesting him to confront Roman Reigns on SmackDown alone.
Discussing this segment on Legion of RAW, Vince Russo praised WWE’s ability to generate excitement by teasing Heyman’s appearance.
However, he expressed disappointment with how the exchange between Cody and Heyman failed to deliver a satisfying payoff during the actual segment.
“This is what I really hate. You got a Heyman tease, and they’re using this kind of as a thread. Then, they don’t pay it off. Then it’s lame. Okay, bro, let’s see what Paul Heyman’s gonna do. He’s got something up his sleeve. And then, by the time we get to the in-ring, it was absolutely lame. They didn’t pay that off.” [From 8:28 onward]
As WrestleMania weekend draws near, Paul Heyman finds himself in a significant role.
Alongside accompanying The Bloodline on both nights of the Show of Shows, he will also be honored with an induction into the Hall of Fame.
